A few weeks ago, I had the chance to attend the LA Fashion Market at the California Market Center to preview collections, meet with brand reps, & explore new brands.
Basically, these types of trade events are made for retail stores to have the opportunity to preview product in hopes that they will be interested in purchasing in bulk. The CMC invites bloggers & fashion influencers to these markets as well to preview, network and SHARE as well.
Can I just say that blogging is the best ‘job’ ever ever ever? #Blessed.
Because I shop SO SO SO much, I just kind of assume I know a lot about contemporary/popular brands. Much to my surprise, many of the brands included in the LA Fashion market were new to me.
But, ASSUMING makes an ASS out of U & ME. I know NOTHING. Call me John Snow ( any Game of Thrones gals out there? LOL ).
Okay, I’ll stop with the bland sayings/corny jokes. Ew, who even am I today?
BTW: I JUST got back from a quick, 10-hour trip to Los Angeles. I literally landed at 6 PM yesterday & left at 4 AM today. So, I made a quick trip for happy hour because I’m a crazy bitch, I guess. I gotta keep myself on my toes.
BACK TO THE PREVIOUSLY-SCHEDULED SHIT:
Here are a few brands that I absolutely fell in LOVE/ LUST with. These collections were pretty enough to stand out amongst ALL OF THE BRANDS that I saw at the LA Fashion Market, and affordable enough to cater to girls like me ( i.e. I don’t have the BIG bucks to spend on clothes at this point in my life… #college ).
I know many of you are in the same boat. SO, here’s that good shit.
Shilla the Label:
OMG– I fell in love with this Australian brand the second I laid eyes on these BEAUTIFUL, LIFE-CHANGING pieces. BTW: many of the pieces in the above pictures were PREVIEWED to me, so some aren’t available quite yet.
Keep an eye out for them on their website ( that goes for all the brands I’m writing about rn! ).
Anywho, what I really like about Shilla is how well-priced it is for the quality. They don’t mess around with the fabric/cut/design/over-all quality of the clothes.
The white dress ( in the above image, on the left ) reminds me of the newly-popular, higher-end brand Self-Portait ( GOALS ) but without the ridiculous price-tag. I’ve seen a few more realistically priced brands try to get this look, but it’s always done wrong.
Shilla gets it right. Shilla gets everything right.
Seriously, I would wear everything this brand makes, & I’m NEVER able to say shit like that. It’s the real deal.
Sidenote: I wouldn’t say Shilla the Label is CHEAP, but in comparison to brands like it, Shilla’s stuff is a STEAL. It isn’t like walking into Forever21 & being able to buy the whole store, though. It’s somewhere in the middle ($80-$160 for most things).
Another one that was pretty much a love-at-first sight situation!
Sea Dreamer is another Australian brand that absolutely kills it in the name of quality AND price. This line has a more boho-feel to it than Shilla, which is obviously so typical ‘me’ that I’m almost annoyed with myself.
The beach girl in my soul with always mix in a little boho when she can.
The pricing on Sea Dreamer is about the same as Shilla, so it’s reasonable for girls like me! I will invest a bit to make sure the fabric and the fit is RIGHT, but I’m kind of over it when it comes to having the ‘it’ brands.
The bulk of my closet is brands like these. Reasonable.
Also, THEY HAVE WELL-PRICED BIKINIS!
Some of you have asked me where to find trendy/cute AF swimsuits for better prices, and this brand is a great example of that! Definitely browse their website if that’s something you’re looking for.
Lisa Maree, like the above, isn’t cheap, but it isn’t as expensive as many of those Instagram-popular suits we see like EVERY SECOND of our online lives.
I noticed that, on average, the price for a full bikini or a badass one-piece is between $130-180. It’s def a lot better than $130 for EACH PIECE. Like…. why is it suddenly normal to pay over $100 for a pair of barel-there string bottoms?
So this brand technically isn’t new to me, because I have a pair of booties from FOREVER ago by VV ( seen here ), but I didn’t realize how much I LOVE this brand until I saw all of their options.
Again, super well-priced and they have so many trendy options!
I esp love Very Volatile’s Spring/Summer stuff coming out soon, and ( obviously ) their short-hair booties. VV is killin’ it for me right now.
I feel like quality shoes are usually pretty difficult to find. I have a few favorite labels, and I find myself remaining loyal to those labels for sure.
Welcome to the club, Very Volatile.
OMG YASSS. Clogg-y, clunky, 70’s-esque shoes are my SHIT. I am so damn pumped to have discovered Five Worlds while at the market center.
Because that’s JUST what I need… MORE brands to spend my money on. Great.
So, back in high school, I bought myself a pair of wooden-wedge shoes that I wore out EVERY. FUCKING. WEEKEND. until about sophomore year of college when they had just had enough.
I tend to like shoes with a large platform and more of a wedge/really thick heel for when I’m going out. It’s all about what you can walk in best when you’re going to be drunk, really. The wedge/thick heel always works for me, because I’m less prone to falling all over the place.
You can be drunk, but you don’t have to be sloppy.
TYSM, Five Worlds. You are really doing a lovely job of keeping idiots like me on our feet. Changing the world.
Also, these types of shoes are generally more durable/last longer than a more sleek heel/pump. You will NOT catch me in a pair of those at the bar. No fucking way.
I definitely like a few pairs of Five Worlds for being all cute at brunch & such, but I can see myself buying a few neutral pairs of these to go out in. It’s really an investment piece, TBH.
LOL– okay, obviously everybody knows Steve Madden.
This brand has been one of my go-to brands forever. I’m sure y’all can say the same.
Consider this a PSA that Steve Madden’s spring/summer shit is really, really fucking great. As per usual, they have SO many different styles from heels to sandals to athletic-style shoes.
I cannot wait to get my hands on a few pairs of these.
I’m all about the dainty, geometric jewelry right now, and Femme Rox just gets it.
Sometimes, this look can cost you an arm and a leg, and it’s frustrating to spend SO much money on shit that you will probably end up losing or something.
It just isn’t as worth it to me to spend the big bucks on something ‘trendy’ that could also fly off my finger. I lost TWO rings at the airport yesterday because they literally flung off my fingers & I was in a huge hurry, so I left them behind.
Because I can leave behind rings that didn’t cost me half of my income. I’ll just buy new ones because… no big deal.
LOL– mental image of mr rings flinging through the air and me running ( in HEELS & A COCKTAIL DRESS ) through the Houston airport. I looked like a straight up hooker. Fab.
Anywho, Femme Rox is coolio.
FAVORITES ONLINE RN:
These Rings in Every Color
Air Jackets, Studs, Pretty Rings, Etc.
Blaine Bowen also makes clothes & such, too!
That seems to be the general theme of this post, have y’all noticed?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about splurging when I find something that I really, really love. BUT, if I can score cute shit for cheaper than average, I’m on it.
Which ones are y’alls’ faves??
These are all of my tipity-top highlights from the LA Fashion Market, so these are ALL my faves.
Next time, I’m going to spend a lot more time looking at the activewear/swimwear brands! I get so many questions regarding affordable but trendy and good quality activewear, swimwear, sleepwear, etc.
I’ll get all that info for y’all next go-around.
Hope you guys learned something new today! xx
